How we Started
Askmi Foods is more than just a brand it is a story of resilience, sacrifice, and the unwavering strength of a mother.
At the heart of Askmi Foods is Ms. Sriyani Kaluthanthri, a dedicated mother who once lived as a housewife, tirelessly working to support her family. For over a decade, she devoted herself to making asmi, a beloved Sri Lankan delicacy, to provide financial stability for her household. Her journey was far from easy.
The bond between a mother and daughter is the foundation of Askmi Foods. Ms. Sriyani Kaluthanthri’s unwavering dedication and hard work inspired her daughter, Sithara Buddhini, to build something lasting. What started as one mother’s struggle to provide for her family has now become a movement to uplift and empower women across Sri Lanka. Through Askmi Foods, this mother daughter duo is turning tradition into opportunity, ensuring that the craftsmanship of hardworking women is recognized and sustained beyond seasonal demand.
How we named Askmi Foods
Sithara and Heshan built Askmi Foods to give these women a platform a place where they could grow, expand, and sustain their craft beyond seasonal sales. She knew that Sriyani’s asmi wasn’t just food; it was a legacy, a tradition perfected over years. The name Askmi comes from this very essence the snack that built their lives, the snack that now stands for something greater.
Our Mission for the Future
At Askmi Foods, our mission goes beyond offering delicious Sri Lankan delicacies. We aim to create lasting impact by empowering women, particularly mothers, to break free from the cycle of seasonal income instability. By expanding traditional recipes into year-round products, we are not only preserving Sri Lankan culture but also providing sustainable livelihoods for women across the country.
